Safety Tips while using Space Heaters

5/14/2020 (Permalink)

Space heater on fire in a bedroom. Here at SERVPRO of Sunland/Tujunga we like to educate our customers about using space heaters before it is too late and a fire occurs.

Space heaters are not the safest, but we know that they are sometimes necessary as some people do have to use them. We understand that, so we wanted to write a blog about space heater tips. Believe it or not, space heaters are extremely popular in office spaces too.

1. Space heaters can ignite fires. Place heaters three feet away from combustible items

  • curtains
  • rugs
  • papers
  • furniture
  • clothes

2. Keep space heaters on flat surfaces.

  • Keep heaters out of walkways to prevent bumping into the heater and knocking it over.

3. Always check to make sure that it has not been damaged in any way

  • frayed cords
  • cracks
  • loose plugs

4. Never leave your space heater unattended while it is in use.

  • Turn off when you leave home
  • Turn off when you go to sleep

Call SERVPRO of Sunland/Tujunga for any other fire safety tips!
